Happy New Year

Just want to wish a HAPPY NEW YEAR to anyone who wanders onto these pages. While I'm here I will post a few more pictures of the Christmas Light Display in Madison. Hard to believe that the new year is here.

I have about 6 new beer brands to taste but feeling so miserable haven't even opened any yet. They will be ready for me to taste in 2012. Something to look forward to.

Lost Another Post

Yes once again I lost a nice post, including 3 pictures. Where do they go? Floating out in space. Do the astronauts read them, or maybe the angels. None the less the post and the pictures are gone from yesterdays blog. I will post one of the pictures from our family Christmas Party in this writing. I will also post one of the pictures I took of a great display of
Christmas lights in Madison. There are many cute displays like that. You drive thru this park with your headlights on dim and many autos tour these displays. They will be up for 1 more week I believe.

Merry Christmas

We went to breakfast with this fella today as we do many Saturdays thruout the year. He is always in his civilian clothes instead of his dress reds. He left his reindeer out on a farm so that they could get rested up for this evenings adventure. No, that is not me sitting on his knee. He said when that fella saw him he rushed over to him and just set his butt down. As you can tell from the photo Santa got a kick out of this fellas enthusiam for this time of the year.
Just want again to wish anyone who trips into this blog a very Merry Christmas and if I don't get a chance to blog before A Very Happy New Year.

Will have some beer taste tests results in a upcoming article.

More Entertainment

Yes last evening we were treated to more great entertainment. Our two youngest grands had their Christmas Concert. We met our daughter and her hubby and the kids for a quick meal at a local eatery before heading to their preschool. Another great crowd of parents and grandparents filled the school rooms and hallways. We were treated to our youngest grands program first and it was a powerfull songfest of Christmas songs. Tremendous applause followed each song. The children performed their movements very gracefully and their voices rang through the room. Good program kids.

While waiting for our older grand to perform and other groups performed we adjourned to the lunchroom where the girls decorated cookies with frosting and sprinkles. Enjoyed some of the cookies that the girls decorated then it was time for the other grands class to perform. Again a great rendition of our favorite Christmas songs. Their voicesnot only filled the room but I'm sure anyone lingering in the hallway were entertained too. Again the gracefullness of their movements were well coordinated. Looking forward to the next time they perform.

Try Once More

Giving it a go once more. Last Thursday we attended a concert at the Senior Center. It was a Russian Trio, The Ekaterinburg Classical Trio, or "Kat Trio". It consisted of a clarinet, violin and piano. It was a very good hour of entertainment. Their variety of music was great and I truly enjoyed the concert. My only disappoint was the crowd or really the lack of a crowd. They are touring around Wisconsin as one of the members is attending the University of Wisconsin. The other two members received their Doctoral degrees from Arizona State University.

Sunday we attended a Christmas program presented by two of our grandchildrens school. Again a 1½ hours of fine entertainment. The various grades presented their programs and the large full house plus standing room only crowd really appreciated the program. Thursday we travel again to view our youngest granddaughters day care for their program. Looking forward to this performance and I'm sure I wll write about it soon.

Tomorrow I head for the Doctors office to see about my swollen legs and a rash on my arms and legs. I know I will hear cut back on the salt. I have cut back on the salt.

Hope I can get this to publish. 3 photos, the Hawk from 2 messages ago, the Kat Trio and a picture from the grands performance.

Two Backyard Visitors

We have lots of animals visiting our backyard daily. We have a bunch of squirrels, rabbits and sometimes chipmonks and moles. Even see deer every now and then, also in our many years here we have seen foxes raccoons and badgers. These animals like to visit our bird feeders especially under the feeders where feed for them is easy pickings. Our neighbors also enjoy feeding these creatures. We have a wooded area afew blocks from our house. At one time we lived near the outskirts of the city but in the 37 years we have resided at this address the city has extended south so we are now surrounded by houses. The birds and the animals just stayed with us.

The hawk pictured (if the pictures upload) visited daily for a few years resting in our elm tree, but the elm just got to unwieldy and a few branches landed against our garage this past fall so last December we had it cut down and we hadn't seen the hawk until yesterday. He sat on the luminary for some time then went into our front yard to chase the birds who reside in our mugho pine bushes. It was fun following his adventures.

Thanksgiving Day

These were the beers we enjoyed.
Thursday November 24, 2011

Yesterday we celebrated Thanksgiving Day, started off visiting our daughter, son-in-law and 2 young granddaughters in Madison and then continued to another daughters home near Lodi. When we arrived there our oldest granddaughter and her husband as well as her parents had already arrived with two of their younger children. We sat and enjoyed the Packers victory over Detroit while enjoying a few beers. After the game another of our daughters and her husband arrived and our GD and her hubby left for his parents house. Soon two of our grandsons arrived, they were working at a grocery store til it closed. We then sat down and to a delicious Thansgiving meal with all its trimming as well as a great desert. After some conversation we excused ourselves and headed for home before complete darkness covered the roads.

Hope everyone who celebrates this holiday has as enjoyable day as we had.

Just A Few Notes

Just thought that I would drop into the blog and make a few notes. Nothing of great importance, just something so I could post this picture that I took from a few miles from our house. These hay bales are located at a farm that also has Corn Row paths to follow in the fall and other things for children to become acquainted with farm life and to have some fun at the same time.

Weather was great today but we are waiting for the big snow storm or the big freeze. We moved our T@B camper today so that we can cover it with a tarp for the winter months. I hope the weather will hold for a few days so that I can get a little work done around the outside yard. My legs have been giving me a problem but I hope that the compression stockings will take care of the leather like skin on my lwer legs and the swelling of both legs. Am taking it easy but have to get some of the outside work done. A windy day today and a lot of the hanger-on leaves decorate our lawn once again. I guess the rake still fits in my hands.

Enough for now, LUCKY 13

Pumpkin Beer

Before I start on Pumpkin Beer I want to remember my favorite TV personality. Rest Easy Andy Rooney, I will miss your ramblings. You made 60 Minutes my favorite news show.

Back in the 50's and into the middle 60's part of my job was beer tasting. In those years I tasted many beers, from Wisconsin and all the states, from England, Japan, Poland and from around the world. Tasted rice beer, barley beer, all kinds of beer but never pumpkin beer. It just doesn't sound good to me. I don't care for pumpkin pie so that may be part of the story. The rest of the story, you can guess by now, yes, I will be going out and shopping for a 6 or 12 pack of Pumpkin Beer. If I come across this product I would not at all be surprised if it showed up at a certain camping trip in July. Carefull all you South Shoto campers, you never know what flavor will turn up in your beer mug.

Just Ramblings

Trying once again to post pictures. In the meantime I will just ramble on. The one picture I am trying to post now is a view of fall colors in Wisconsin. If the first picture posts I will try to post a picture of a rainbow I took as my wife drove so I could take these photographs.

I will have to look back to see if the picture of our new oak floor in the kitchen-dining room posted a few weeks ago. Boy its November already, soon the snow will fly. We have had a pretty pleasant fall and although the past few days have been very very chilly we are to have temperatures in the mid 50's for the week-end. Hope the weather persons will have this forecast right.

Will have to check back on the last few posts if I wrote about the latest beers that I tasted. Also have another ale in the refrigerator that my daughter brewed. The last brews of hers I tasted definitely got my seal of approval.

Again I wll not edit this post I will just hit publish post and hope the pictures do post.

Quick Post

Yes I had to post to tell you that we went to the Old Geezer Center, sometimes referred to as the Senior Center, they were having a bratwurst fryout. So we enjoyed a brat, a Pepsi (no beer) and chips for 4 bucks. Been keeping the wurst makers working overtime these past few weeks. Baseball I think is done for the season and the next car show isn't until September 6th. Also in September Elvis or a Elvis impersonator is coming to the park in Jefferson for a free concert. If we are home on those dates and they aren't rained out that should be two more brats. After that we will have to go to the store and cook them ourselves.

Note saying they couldn't find blogger, didn't know if this would publish. Also trying to upload a picture again. Opps the note just disappeared so maybe this will post. Picture isn't showing, oh well!

Tuesday August 16, 2011

Breakfast at McD's today with our little group. This afternoon cleaned out the rain gutters, quite a lot of leaves plugging the gutter drains. This evening went to the ball park for a bratwurst and a beer. The draw to the park was a bunch (over 200) of antique and older cars. Really some great autos. A few old tractors, motorcycles and trucks also were present. I'm hoping the 2 photos I uploaded actually will post on this page or if like a lot of other times when they won't post.

The pictures did not upload again.

Wow Time Flies

Just some pictures taken on trips within Wisconsin

Quite a few late hours lately and I have been neglecting the computer alittle. Mainly the blogs and groups. Been eating a bunch of bratwursts lately. Concert (Brian Daniels Band) in Jefferson and they served bratwursts and I had to try one. That was last Wednesday I believe. Free outdoor concert and a good crowd and good music. Then Thursday a ball game at the local park. Yup buck beers and good bratwurst. Saturday our Church picnic and I figured I better have a good hot dog because I knew I would have a bratwurst at the picnic.

Been quite warm again the past few weeks. Haven't been getting much done around the house, but what's new. Tomorrow breakfast at McD's then clean the garage. Been getting rid of a few things slowly but surely.

Tasted a few beers since I last wrote. Today enjoyed a Oatmeal Stout that my daughter brewed. Very good beer.

We attended the summers last city band concert this evening. Friends joined us and we really enjoyed the concert. They played all the tunes that the attendees of previous concerts voted as their favorites. Even the Beer Barrel Polka, my personal favorite of the summer concerts. Mostly patriotic and Broadway songs. Would have liked a singer to accompany them on a few songs.

It's Been A While Since I Posted

Me showing one of the beers taste tested earlier in July when camping (see earlier posts South Shoto Group)

Saturday July 16 I went outside and heard airplanes flying overhead, looked up and 3 planes flew over. A few seconds after they were out of sight 3 more planes flew over. This went on 16 more times before I decided to go in the house. I should mention that this is a yearly happening as the planes head for the Experimental Airplanes Assn in Oshkosh. I believe they meet somewhere near our area and then head for the meet. The meet did not start til Monday so I imagine they went up to help set up. Our next door neighbor is now working on his 3rd plane that he builds.

Weather has been hot this summer. Had a few days of rain last week so I finally mowed the lawn. Sort of nice not having to mow each week. It was a month since I had last mowed. After the rain the lawn turned green again and now rain is predicted for Tuesday evening.

Went to Madison to celebrate our youngest granddaughters 3rd birthday. It was a nice day enjoyed a beer and cake as well as the company of our daughter and son-in-law. Later our oldest granddaughter came over with her finance and a friend of theirs and took our combination bookshelf-TV cabinet. Granddaughter and fella will be married September 10th, her mothers (our daughter) birthday and our 56th anniversary. Lots to look forward too.

South Shoto Group--Part Five

We all departed the campground Sunday morning and headed for Manitowoc. The Ennajeans and the Bill W's packing up their belongings and ending their camping for this trip. Mary and I also left for Manty but to attend a family reunion on her family side. We enjoyed the get together with many family members that attended. After an early supper we departed to travel the 120 miles back to the campground. The other two couples left some firewood for us and we enjoyed a fire into the darkness of the evening. Monday we got up early and packed up to leave. The weather forecast was again for a hot hot day.

When we arrived home about 4:00 p.m. we uncoupled the trailer and did some unpacking. We left a little of the work for Wednesday. All-in-all it was another pleasant camping experience and then the added ingredient of the family reunion on Sunday afternoon.

South Shoto Group--Part Four

Saturday July 16, 2011. Another warm, warm day (HOT). Pleasant breeze blowing thru the campground once again to make it a bearable day. Took a short walk to the boat launch as I did each day, usually a few times each day. Afternoon Bill and I resumed our taste tests. A list of some of the brews that I brought follows: Select 55, Coronita Extra, Steel Reserve, Jupiler, Westmalle Trappist, Leffe, LeTrappe, Dos Equis, Mared sous, Hertog Jan Dubel. Also had MGD, Leinenkugel and Stevens Point special. I believe Bill brought along 14 various brews, chances are we would not run out. We don't do a real write down on a taste test form, our comments are more like, "Not Bad" "Pretty Good" "Needs a Boost" "I Like This". Comments from the women were more like, "Ugh, How Can You Drink This" "This Is Crap" "This Is O.K.". Didn't include the four brews that my daughter brewed in the brews that I took with me. Had 4 ales that she brewed. Only got to officially taste one of those a blond IPA. This brew of hers took top honors even the gals said that it was the best.

Tried to post more pictures but no luck, will post pics from this outing in future posts if I can.

South Shoto Group--Part Three

Day 3-Friday July 15, 2011. Another very warm (hot) day. Thank you Mother Nature for the wind blowing across this camping park. Early in the afternoon Bill and I starting our taste testing. I brought out the first sample pictured above. Anyone familiar with us would recognize why that was my first choice. (Note the name) Yes it was a Weissbier. It was a quality product, then Bill brought out a beer that was brewed only a few miles from my house. It was Bitter Woman IPA from Tyranena Brg Co. Again a good ale but not appreciated by the 3 gals who only had a sip of it. Ibelieve that we tasted about 5 more brews that day before returning to our sitting back and enjoying the others, the area and later the campfire meals.

I have tried to add more pictures but I have had no luck. I'm glad I got the one pic to load. More info to follow in the next few days.

Should also add Bill and Joans granddaughter made a collage of beer labels for her brothers college room. We have saved many labels from these summer outings.

South Shoto Group--Part Two

Day 2 and Bill and Joan arrived Thursday afternoon. They got the trailer all set and they joined us in a can of liquid refreshment. Bill just retired 2 weeks ago so they are ready to party. They purchased a new trailer and plan to use it often this summer. Their old trailer was 10 years old so they have to get used to the refinements of this home away from home. Bill took us on a tour of the trailer and it is quite the unit. Very, very comfortable inside, a real home away from home.

We did not have any beer tasting this day just enjoyed the beers and sodas that we normally drink. I had a Mountain Creek lager from Minhaus Brewery. This is brewed in Monroe, Wisconsin. The old Huber Brewery was purchased by a Canadian Brewery and this is a fairly good inexpensive beer.

I had hoped to post a few pictures but again as happened my dial up does not seem to want to cooperate. Will try to post pictures again tomorrow.

South Shoto Group Camping--Part One

Returned from a six day camping trip. Our South Shoto Group has been camping together every July for quite a few years. It consists of 6 members, myself (lucky 13 aka don) my wife (Mary) sister Anne and her hubby Dick plus our friends Bill and Joan. We arrived at the park Wed. afternoon about 2:30 pm, sis Anne and hubby were already set up and enjoying a beverage. We got our site set up and then joined them for some hearty chatter and of course a cool beverage. Our friends were to join us the next day. We enjoyed a meal around the fire pit and sat around the campfire until it was time to hit the sack (sleep). It would be a very busy day tomorrow as Bill W. and I prepare to taste many varied beers. I have a few beers from overseas (The Netherlands, Beligium and Germany) and Bill picked up the USA brews. The girls often join in for a quick taste if we give the beers a high number. Sometimes their opinion varies from Bill and mine expert opinions. B-I-L Dick just enjoys his Miller Lite and offers a few comments but does not partake of the taste tests. The gals opinions are not taken as official as Bill and I are the official group tasters. More to follow. Please remember that no notes were taken so this is all from memory. Pictures of the brews will follow in future posts as well as a beer label collage that Bill and Joans granddaughter made for her brothers dorm room at college. We had a surprise winner this year.

Been Ignoring This Blog

Deerfield downtown

Cottage Grove, WI.

Yes, just a few notes to catch up on my posting. Nothing much exciting since the last post except for the storm that passed thru a few days ago. We had no real bad damage in our yard except for a multiple branches in our yard from the neighbors trees and lots of new roofing sand in our eaves troughs. Our neighbor up the block had a very large branch ripped from a tree in his front yard and it ended up laying on his roof. Not sure how much damage resulted in that instance.

We will be camping soon and I have a good supply of both domestic and foreign beers to evaluate. I will have help in this endeavor with a friend. We have researched tasting various beers on this annual trip for many many years now. Will have a full report on thie results in future postings.

More Beer Info

Miller is using the gal on the moon once again. I like that.

Just a quick pic of a Pabst can

Thought that I would quick post one more time before July arrives.

Went down to the ball park to watch a little bit of the ball game but also to partake of the $1.00 cans beer and the great bratwurst, hot dogs or hamburgers. So far this season we been there for 4 games. That means 3 brots and 1 hamburger. Also 2 Miller GD's and 2 cans of Pabst. Truly enjoy the games, meals and the friends we meet there.

Had a couple of great days here yesterday and today. Temps in the mid 70's to low 80's with a light breeze blowing.

Enjoy the fourth and the fireworks or parades. Say a prayer for our men and women in the armed servics.

Saturday Night

Two of the cheap whoops inexpensive beers I enjoyed this week

Not much happening since my last post. Been to the ball park for a brat and the $1.00 beer a few evenings this week. Grocery shopping of course and lawn mowing and hedge trimming filled out the week. I probably forgot a few things but that is life in the fast lane. Enjoyed a few inexpensive beers during breaks from the out door duties. Oh I also am making room in the garage so that I can park the Isuzu and still get out of it without the circus acts I have been using to get in and out of it. Removed two big storage units. Will be cleaning out and tossing out many items in the garage this summer. Check with me this fall on this. I'm sure the garage will be clean!

Busy Day

Drove to Sun Prairie for Mary to get an injection for her exposed nerve near her eye. Then drove to see our granddaughters for a few minutes. Decided to stop at Casino as I had a free meal ticket for us. Ate first then played slots for a bit. Lost $1.00 to the blasted machines. Headed for home. For supper we went to the local park for brats and a beer, watch a little of the ball game and check out the old and classic autos on display at the park. It threatened storms all day but they held off until after 10:00 PM. I'm hoping to download a few pictures of a couple of the cars. The photos once again do not seem to be uploading. Guess I will forget about them for now.

Week of June 12,2011

Pics from the zoo.

This past week started off slow but it turned out to be a busy few days later in the week. We did a few local outings early in the week, band concert, shopping both grocery and Dollar stores. Had a beer and a bratwurst at the ball park and watched the local ball team play. Also band concert.

Did stop at the Indian Casino, enjoyed a BLT and won $1.95 on the slots. The frau got $5.00 for her June birthday from the casino and she added $4.50 in winnings to that. Made for an inexpensive lunch.

Then on Thursday we ventured to Madison and met our daughter and 2 little granddaughters at the Vilas Park Zoo. It is a great zoo and it is free. We were fortunate enough to get a parking space near the entrance. Met with the girls and walked around the park. We saw many animals then the kids wanted to go to the children zoo, We walked in that direction and they played in the playground. Then they wanted to ride the Merry Go Round. They also have a small train and we didn't have time to let them ride it. I'm getting old and the legs were giving out and the sun was getting to me. It was a good time.

Friday mowed the lawn. Then enjoyed a small bottle of Miller High Life. Looked at the label and off to the side was a picture of the Miller gal sitting on the moon. I didn't realize that Miller still used that logo. It was good to see it once again, maybe they will be using it in their upcoming ads. I hope that they will.

Bout Time I Posted

It's been awhile since I last posted. Since that time we went camping, got my collector license plates for my 20 year old car and today took a bus trip with the local senior center to a casino in Milwaukee.

Camping: Spent 3 days camping last week at a county park in central Wisconsin. Two of our daughters with some of the grandchildren stopped by and the kids enjoyed the park. Only four campers were camping.

Collector Plate: Sister Anne and hubby Dick stopped over on their way home after camping in Illinois with a group. We went out for dinner and they headed north to their home. When we got back to our house and checked the mail box our license plates for our auto we purchased 20 years ago arrived. We are now the owner of a collector car.

Today we bused into Milwaukee with some friends and a bunch of senior citizens on a casino bus trip. It was a very pleasant day spent with friends and the meal at the casino was delishous. Mary and I each pocketed a few bucks from the slot machines.

I was hoping to post a few pictures but my computer is quite slow again.

Barn, VA Visit

The two pics here were taken one week apart. Apr 29, 2011

May 06, 2011 (See yesterdays post on Remodel Barn)

Motored to Madison today. I had a chekup scheduled with my Dr. at the VA Hospital. Visit went pretty good, have to cut down on salt and bread products. He said other than my legs all is well with me. Then we stopped at DeJope Casino for a BLT and fries which Mary and I split. Not exactly what the Dr. would be happy with. After lunch put $5.00 in a slot machine and 5 minutes later that $5 turned into $10.09 so I withdrew the ticket and went to the window to pick up my winnings.

We were extremely lucky with our time in the casino. As we were eating and playing the slots (about 45 minutes total) we missed a hugh storm with baseball sized hail. Quickly checked the car but we heard later the main damage was about 13 miles from the casino but directly in our travel home.

Round Barn------More

Been having trouble posting lately. Today again I cannot post 3 pictures. The 3rd barn picture will not download. (See note at bottom of post)

This picture was shot shortly after the cap or dome was finished. It orginally was built with the cap.

As we would drive to Madison I would get out the camera and snap a picture.

I have taken many pictures of barns in good condition and bad shape but I believe I have more photos of this barn than any other.

This was the barn as we first saw it 37 years ago. This pic was taken in 2007.
As you can tell from the paragraph above this barn has always fascinated me. I will post more pictures of it as

I dig for them in my storage system.

Granddaughter receives First Communion

After the ceremony Mary and I took off to check out our favorite camping areas. Looks like most of our tours will be statewide with the price of gas skyrocketing up. We went to Derge Park first, they have a host but no campers were there this day. Then we headed up to the Dells and Mirror Lake State Park. We bought our State Park Sticker and checked out the campers. About 30 campers with a lot of tent campers. It was nearly 2:00 pm and we decided to have a bite to eat. Since the Casino was nearby we drove there and split a BLT. Then as long as we were there we thought "what the heck" put in a few bucks and see what happens. Well I was quite lucky and came out $25.10 ahead of the game. I decided to quit and move on. Mary also was $8.00 to the good. Wondering around the Hotel Lobby we saw the Klement Sausages that appear at the Milwaukee Brewer games. I hi fived with them then we headed out. Wished I had the camera with me, I think the kids would have enjoyed see us with the Klement Products. Took off for Devils Lake State Park and check it out. Lots of cars at the Park Office but we did not see any campers. We only drove thru one camper area however. Decided to take the Merrimac Ferry across the Wisconsin River then head up to see daughter Heidi. Had to wait at the Ferry Dock as there were quite a few cars ahead of us. The ice cream stand was open but we did not buy a cone. Crossed the river and headed toward Lodi and Harmony. Saw a T@B in Harmony Grove but did not stop at the peoples house. Checked out Heidi's painted walls then departed for home. It was one busy day but exciting.

Royal Wedding over my Dr appt over!!! Cut back on salt, no fast food!!! I luv McDoubles and fries. Lose weight!!! My Dr. she hates me I think. Much luck to Kate and her Prince.

A few of my many hats. I have about 60 of these baseball type hats on hand. Will have to count them some day. Have given 18 of them to the local St. Vinnies Resale store and tossed out some when they got dirty and couldn't be cleaned. Also gave a few to the kids and grandkids. Probably have had over a hundred or so thru the years. I never bought any myself. Got some by sending in coupons and some as gifts as people thought I needed them. Got a bunch of Tee shirts that way also. Someday may have to photograph them.

This is a picture of a cedar chest my F-I-L made for us. A friend bought us the angel blanket. The small pic of the pup is our Nelli who recently passed on to a new life in Puppy Heaven. The stuffed animals were presents we received over the years.

Ready For Collector Plates

1991 Isuzu Stylus

License plates that is. Yes Suzie Isuzu hit 20 years old this month. Although it has traveled the midwest and east coast it only has about 110,000 miles on it. Not sure if I should put collector plates on it or not. Will travel to the Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Department in Madison and see what it all entails to get it done.
